4. Is TheraCoonzzz of Minnesota an Ethical Breeder?

* Ethical Breeding means intentionally producing animals in a way that prioritizes health, welfare, temperament, the long-term integrity of the breed, and maintaining the Maine Coon Breed Standard. TheraCoonzzz of MN does not breed for profit, convenience, or volume. TheraCoonzzz of MN is a responsibility-driven practice, not a business model.

* Health comes first: Perform breed-specific genetic testing, use ongoing health screening (e.g. annual echocardiograms), remove cats from breeding if Health concerns arise, avoid doubling up on risky genetics (no line breeding) even if kittens are in demand.

* Temperament matters: Cats selected for breeding are stable, social and confident. Aggressive, fearful or highly stressed cats are not bred, kittens are handled, socialized and exposed to normal household life.

* Quality of Life for Breeding Cats: Ethical Breeders ensure ALL of our cats live as beloved companions, not caged animals. Limited number of Breeding Cats for our household size (We breed on a very small scale in our home), Adequate rest between litters, Queens are retired early after 1-3 litters to ensure they live the majoirty of thier life as a beloved pet companion Studs are only kept in my breeding program if they enjoy being a stud. If stressed, they retire young and are placed in a loving pet home to live the remainder of their life as a spoiled pet companion.

* Intentional, Limited Breeding: Breeding has clear goals (health, structure, temperament), no constant litters year-round, Each litter is planned - not accidental or impulsive, The breeder can name every cat and their lineage, Breeder knows the COI inbreeding percentages of every pairing prior to mating.

* Lifetime Responsibility for Every Kitten: Ethical Breeders screen potential homes carefully, Use written contracts, Require kittens be returned to the breeder if the owner can no longer keep or care for the kitten/cat, Do not allow kittens to end up in shelters.

* Transperancy and Accountability: Health Testing is documented and shared, Breeders welcome questions and education, They stay connected with Kitten families for the life of the companion, Mistakes are acknowledged - not hidden.

* Breed Stewardship: Ethical Breeding is about preserving the breed's health, type and temperament, Reducing inherited disease over generations, Educating the public, Mentoring or being mentored within the breeder community.

* Ethical Breeders Love the cats more than the kittens, the kittens more than the money and are willing to Delay Breeding, Spend money they won't recover, Say "NO" to buyers, Retire beloved cats early.

5. Is there a waiting list for TheraCoonzzz of MN kittens?

*We do not currently have a paid waiting list. Here at TheraCoonzzz we have a policy in place that every family must complete an application and be approved prior to adopting a TheraCoonzzz cat or kitten. We take great pride in the selection process for our Maine Coon babies. Every kitten that leaves our Maine Coon Cattery will go to what we feel is the very best home. We have many approved applications on our list, but it's not a "waiting list" like most breeders have. Our adoption process has worked out to be the best method that works for us, the babies and the furever homes. It also allows your to keep searching for kittens from other breeders. You aren't locked into one cattery for months and months waiting for your Maine Coon Kitten. To fill out an application and be pre-approved to be on our list

10. Do you allow visits in your home to see the kittens/cats?

* We do not allow visits in our home unless you are picking up a kitten you have already reserved. There are many reasons why we do not allow visits in our home, but generally speaking, we aren't comfortable with it. We post plenty of photos, videos, we offer live facetime video call appointments and have our website to give you a great idea of who I am as a person and breeder. Most catteries today do not allow visits. If you are looking for a kitten to "Choose you" TheraCoonzzz is not the cattery for you. * Maine Coons are gentle and patient usually tolerant and easygoing, less likely to be aggressive, many are very careful with their paws.

16. Do Maine Coon Cats shed?

* Maine Coon Cats shed their fur in the Spring and Summer months, and regain a full dress in the Fall and Winter. This coat helps keep them warm in the cold and snow. Their foot tufts are also designed for cold weather and protect their toe beans from winter weather elements.

17. Why are Maine Coon Cats so expensive?

* Maine Coon Cats are the most popular breed of cat in the world. There is a very high demand for these big, beautiful healthy Maine Coon kitten. It's also very expensive to ethically raise these cats and properly manage a Maine Coon Cattery.

18. Do Maine Coon Kittens like to be held?

* The Maine Coon breed is a very affectionate cat. They love to be with their humans, and in the social spotlight. Kittens have a lot of energy and would prefer to spend their time chasing balls and running through tunnels and on cat wheels! Once they expend their energy and wear down, they are happy to hop up on your lap and cuddle and nap. The older a Maine Coon gets, the more they enjoy sleeping and cuddling with their owners.

19. Do Maine Coons Sleep with their owners at night?

* Maine Coons do like to sleep with their owners. Due to their large size, you may have to upgrade your mattress size to accommodate your furr-kids. They like to snuggle with their owners starting from very young Maine Coon kittens until they are full-sized Kitty Cats. Some of them will sleep on your pillow and make biscuits in your hair even if you don't want them to!

20. What size litter box will I need for an adult Maine Coon?

*XXXXXLLLLLLL extra large! I have found the stainless steel 20" x 28" x 14" to be a perfect size for the Maine Coon Breed.

21. How big will my Maine Coon get?

* Maine Coon Cats do not reach their full size until age 4-5 years. Some coats take longer to come in and can take up to a couple of years for the mane to fill in. Males in general are larger than the females, however females when mature are large cats! The Maine Coon Cat body structure is tall and very long rectangular bodied with a long uneven shaggy coat and lynx tips on their ears and very long tail that when doubled around is longer than the length of their body!

22. Do you sell Breeding Rights?

* NO! No exceptions. Do not ask. The answer is NO. ALL kittens are altered prior to leaving the Cattery. I have heard every excuse under the sun. The answer is still NO. If NO doesn't work for you, TheraCoonzzz is not the breeder for you.

23. What Vetting is done prior to my kitten coming home at 16+ weeks?

* Kitten will have completed the kitten FVRCP booster series consisting of (3) vaccines.

* Kitten will have Rabies vaccination

* Kitten will be Microchipped and registered through AKC Reunite with lifetime subscription paid for by the breeder

* Kitten will be Spay/Neuter at 15+ weeks or older if kitten is at home longer than average

* Kitten will have a minimum of (1) Examination by a licensed Veterinarian

Kitten will come home with a complete folder with ALL of their vet medical records from birth until the date they go home

24. Does my kitten come home with pet insurance and what kind?

* Yes! All kittens will go home with a free month trial of Trupanion pet insurance. The insurance will need to be activated for 24 hours prior to the kitten going to new home. Failing to register the kitten for insurance will prevent the kitten from going home on time. This is not negotiable. It is recommended to carry pet insurance for a minimum of 2-3 years while kittens are in their growth phase. Accidents happen and can be unexpected and very expensive. Pet insurance yearly premium will pay for itself with one emergency vet visit.
